Pete in the lead.

This past Friday we had expat playgroup at the zoo. There were new kids to meet, most of them older than Pete, and in standard Pete fashion he held his own, and was even in the lead sometimes. But I'll admit it was pretty easy, all the kids were sweet, good mannered, and well behaved.

Pete did challenge the animals though. He mimicked the ostriches, talked to the pelicans, was "not afraid" of the ginormous tarantula, and growled at the prairie dogs. Growling at the countless birds doesn't count...he does that wherever we go.

We didn't challenge the pygmy goats though, they were already worked up for some reason. A bunch of them were rearing up on their hind legs and smashing head & horns, others were jumping off rocks, head first at other goats. One even almost made an escape out the double fence gate. They usually seem so quite and docile (slightly comatose)...but now I've learned, pay attention when you're in the pen.

This plate of prettiness was the lunch served at our Welcome to DK class some weeks back (it's been stuck in Rich's camera until I remembered it this morning). It was traditional and VERY FANCY danish smorbrod (cold, open-faced sandwiches). Its a bit hard to see under all the garnish but there was...

Roast beef with grated horseradish and pickles...

Fried fish fillet with remoulade...

Shrimp & hard boiled eggs with a copious amount (sickening really) of mayo...

Liver paste with bacon slices and pickled beets, and...

Rollpost (I probably didn't spell that right, it's a kind of rolled, peppered pork slice) topped with cucumber and this gelatin stuff (like gelled stock).
