Tripping

We have four sets of visitors on our calender and the first of them came and went this past week. Rich met his brother Ed and girlfriend Kayla in Dublin last Friday, bringing them back with him to Denmark on Monday. They were only able to stay a couple of days, but I think even in that short time they were able to get an idea of what DK is like.

Small digression here...They were also able to experience the joys of discount airlines, as we were able to do last summer on our trip to London. They charge you for all the little things, and have lots of little rules, and its just an extra stress you don't want to have while traveling. But Ed called last night, saying they had made it safely back to Ireland...although they had to layer up on their clothing while in the ticket line to meet the baggage weight requirements.

They came bearing gifts for Peter - from Ed, Tianna, and my mom. I'm sure you can guess who this one is from.

They weather was *just fine* for our full day out - not sunny, not windy, not cold, not warm. Could have been worse, so we didn't complain. We went downtown to check out the walking streets, I showed them a *nicer* grocery store and explained some of the traditional foods, and we went on over by the HC Anderson Hus (very hygge area). We had lunch at the Bazaar, and then later in the afternoon we took them to a beach in Nyborg to do a little rock and shell scavenging.

After dropping them at the airport yesterday I decided to make it a 'full day out' for Peter and me. We stopped at a trail area within the Veijle Fjord watershed and took a walk along the river and adjacent wetlands. The river was wide, clear, with a pretty good current, and there were lots of people fly fishing (I'd like to know for what kind of fish). The wetland vegetation seemed to just be reed canary and river bulrush, but I could be mistaken.

Then we headed on over to what we'll call starfish beach. We were at this beach last year (accidentally) and there were tons of starfish. Not so many yesterday, but we did acquire another trunk full of shells and stuff. We did happen to find one small starfish, trapped upside down in the rocks. Peter mauled it in the car and was surprised to find that they ooze brown gooey blood when the legs break off. Boys.
