Pete went to school Monday through Thursday (we're at home today, we're going out with friends later). It had its high and low moments. Monday he wanted to go, Tuesday he didn't, Wednesday - yes, Thursday - no. So, on the "no" days we just took it slow.
On Tuesday I went with them on their morning excursion to a local park. I told him that I'd stay until lunch, but he was doing so well at the park that I told him I was leaving (not staying for lunch), and he was fine with that. Wednesday the whole "class" walked to a girl's house for her birthday party, and when I picked him up he said I was there too early. Thursday I reminded him that it would be just one more day, and that the next day we'd be doing something with friends. Again, when I picked him up he said I was there too early.
So I just need to remember this next week...When he says he doesn't want to go, I still need to be firm and take him. After stewing in bad mom guilt all day, I'll go pick him up and he won't even want to go home.
Pete now comes home with dirt and mud on his face daily. He looks just haggard (playground time is a bit like Lord of the Flies), and he sure falls asleep quick.
