Rich wanted to make sure that my mom was aware of the price of a chicken here in Odense. When mom and dad moved back to Minnesota from Utah, mom commented on how much more a whole chicken cost in MN versus UT. Well, the cost is roughly $6.00 U.S. money. More than at home (but the dollar is also worth less here), and I suppose you'd feel compelled to eat all of it since you "paid for it". No dollar double cheeseburger action going on there. But there are something like 5 McDonald's in Odense, and they are advertising a Texas burger for 20 Kroner, probably about $3.20 U.S. (or maybe I am confusing the currency exchange with the kilometer to mile conversion). Anyway, food should cost what it takes to produce, even though it does hurt a bit at the check-out line.
