First Winter-Sown Sprouts

Beginning March 1, I started putting seeds in milk jugs (and other plastic containers) out on the deck. Yesterday! I saw my first sprouts! Three collard greens (as in the second picture below), and some chamomile.

I also don't have the greatest luck growing garlic. So this time I decided to put sprouted garlic cloves out on the porch in March. (Initially the pots were covered with saran-wrap.)  It seems, the porch was cold enough so that they could have their cold spell, but warm enough that they didn't freeze solid or get frost bite. So far, so good.  The black pot in the back is celery.  Yep - you can grow a new plant from the stub you cut off the store bought bunch.
