My mom heard of a butterfly release going on near Brainerd - so off we went. It wasn't quite as expected (with some things you never know). In the end though, Pete did get to release a Monarch and have an ice cream from DQ so we'll call it a successful event.
Later that day = Fishing off the dock with Grandpa.
These little guys wouldn't stop biting until we ran out of bait.
The release.
That's a cup plant. Its a native wetland plant that will really grow anywhere. This spring I met a couple at plant walk. They've converted their entire yard (which was grass) to woodland. Its awesome. This picture was taken at their yard open house which they had last weekend. This is their blog - Restoring the Landscape.
And since Pete's been at the farm for the last couple of nights, I decided that I'd use my free time to re-cover the chairs. An easy and satisfying little job.
What about who? Oh yeah - Rich. He's been training for a marathon, and working on the deck, and harvesting cucumbers and tomatoes. Its pretty amazing what one little garden can produce.
I'm also amazed at these things. They've been moved around, and even blown off the deck. But they always bounce back.
Just yesterday Rich picked this big guy from a a plant on the deck. Its an heirloom variety:
grown from a seed,
that was saved from a tomato,
that he bought at the farmer's market,
last year.
