Peter didn't ask to be in this thing. But I thought it might be a good experience, and doing something this year might make him want (on his own) to try it again next year. So I explained that they were going to do a fair in the school gym. Kinda like what's going on in video we like watching.

Since its Peter's job to help feed the worms, we decided on that. Knowing that Peter is not an artsy-go-getter I got the material ready. I printed out the name of the project in big letters for him to color in. I also printed out a bunch of pictures, so he could cut out the ones he liked. Then he glued them on the poster in the order that things happen (take them out of the closet, dump in the food, add some paper).
Overall? The night of the show, he was happy to see his project, but he was more excited to check out other projects and goof around with friends. Oh well.
I liked doing this because its an activity that involved the entire school, not just his immersion part. These kids don't get to mix much (and neither do us 'other' parents). Everyday, the kids see each other (their classes are across the hall from on another) but they don't necessarily interact, and its kind of a weird 'thing' that the school is working on changing as the immersion school grows within the regular school.
Celebrating the year of the Tiger...
And last weekend was the Lunar New Year Festival - the event is part party, part fundraiser. And although anyone could attend, it was mostly immersion families. Super cool - we got our names written in Chinese on rice paper. Mine is translated - honey jasmine. Peter's Chinese name, which he's now using in class, means virtue. He also has a food name (they all do). Its "carrot". Love it.
