Peter has been doing really good on his bike. Not perfect, but pretty darn good. And example of not perfect would be when he was pedaling like crazy, while turning, and looking at me - and then he crashed into the back of a parked car. Luckily - he always has his helmet on, and the car he hit was pretty souped up and had a nice tall, thin, plastic bumper.
The crashing had to do partly with the size of his tires. They are a tiny 12-inches in diameter, and to keep from falling over he always has to pedal, pedal, pedal. Rich cruised over Gul og Gratis this morning (that's our version of Craig's List) and found a few used bike options. We made an appointment to see a bike less than an hour ago - and this is what we happily ended up with.
It came with a bell, wheel reflectors, and Peter's biggest criteria - a kickstand.
We had a playgroup birthday party yesterday followed by swim class. I don't know what's exactly happened in his brain, but Peter is no longer paying attention in class. It takes about 4 minutes in the pool and he is asking - Is it free time? He's still enjoying himself, he's just that *American kid over there swimming and having a conversation with himself*.
