Local T-Ball Team Starts Out With a Win

Local T-Ball Team Starts Out With a Win
(By RICH BARRETT)

The Tiny Tonka T-Ball season started with a bang this year, with the Orange Team and Light Blue team starting the season with a 0-0 win. No outs or runs were recorded, so we're calling it a victory for both sides. The teams battled for 2 strong innings, highlighted by each team batting around (note: no outs were recorded). Pete Barrett, #6 went 2 for 2, while playing strong in the field. The smooth swinging left handed batter legged out 2 infield hits and came around to score in each inning. When interviewed later while enjoying his post game freezy pop, Pete said that he "liked the hitting" part of the game.

He also played well in the field and even got his glove on the correct hand (most, not all, of his teammates did the same). He joined in with his teammates to chase each ball as it was hit. The team set their fielders to play straight away and utilized the "rush to the ball” tactic to prevent the Orange team from taking the extra base. Pete also pioneered a seldom used fielding strategy called “go visit Mommy and Daddy between batters” during the second inning. After all, even the big leaguers get distracted during the long innings when the other team bats 12.
